Unleashing Power, Pleasure and Purpose in Your 40s, 50s, and Beyond
Discovering Your Deeper Wisdom
Tuesday afternoon, November 14 3 - 7 pm Elixir Cafè (beside The Triplex in Great Barrington) $50 (including dinner)
I invite you to join me for an afternoon workshop, exploring how the changes that begin to hit women around 45 have the potential to free us into our wise power, our sacred purpose – and the lifetime of the pleasure we were born to know.
But why isn't that every women's story? Just when we finally have the experience and insight to make a powerful impact, women often begin to feel invisible. In a culture that values and rewards youth, it’s easy to understand why we fear growing older and want to "fix the problem" ... and why trying to look younger drives so many of our choices -- as well as our economy.
Yet in worrying and trying to fix the “flaws,” we waste what very well may be our most potent opportunity to influence real change -- and grow and thrive into the wise women we most want to be.
Our real beauty is illuminated when we dare to ask the deeper questions of ourselves -- to speak our truth -- with the elegance and grace that befit our age.
I was shocked to discover - and I am super excited to share - how the 4000-year-old tale the Grimm brothers told as Rumpelstiltskin unveils perennial truths for women today, no matter our age.
This ancient story plays out the dilemma that women in midlife face - now as much as ever - having matured in a culture steeped in the transactional values of a patriarchal society. Like in the heroine in the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale, we find it necessary to bargain away what is most precious of ourselves.
I'd been able to delude myself into believing that we were past all that until last fall's election.. and the sex scandals surfacing almost daily. But there's truth here I think we need to unmask if we Western women are to be the ones, as the Dalai Lama predicts, to save our precious Earth. What if hot flashes and menstrual fluctuations are the markers that invite us to look deeper into what we most need for our initiation into wisdom? If we are to spin the straw of mid-life's challenges into the gold of our wise womanhood, peri-menopause may be the ideal time to discover and name the subterranean beliefs that still hinder our full joy and power... because once you name something, it loses its power to oppress you. And then you are free to soar!
As a 60-year-old women’s intimacy coach and spiritual counselor, I have passed through my own peri-menopausal initiation and into my third act. I had no idea how to traverse this territory when I began the journey or how powerfully its revelations would transform me!!!
I call my work Divining Beauty because of the beauty I see when women make space in their lives to divine the wisdom lying beneath their surface.
Like a divining rod that guides its holder to the treasure hidden beneath the ground, peri-menopause offers women a precious opportunity to delve beneath the crusty surface of its obvious annoyances and struggles for the gold that is waiting to be spun there.
Please join me Tuesday afternoon, November 14th.
We'll begin looking at the changes that come with mid-life
Then I'll tell you the story of a young maiden, her insecure father, a greedy king and Rumpelstiltskin, the "magical" man she thinks can save her life.
We'll work with these metaphors to discover the craft we've used to save our own lives and the wisdom ready to be born when we name our own magic, waiting to be claimed.
And we'll end with exquisite organic gourmet vegetarian dinner created by Elixir's Nancy Lee.
As in all fairytales, there's a happy ending. Come discover the powerful, spiritual perspective this old story reveals for your peri-menopause, and one that's never been more needed.
You can reserve your spot in advance here with Elixir's PayPal ($50) or pay at the door ($60). Please note: Registration is limited. Wait list available for January's workshop.
