What is Imbolc?
In the Celtic Isles the time half way between the winter solstice and spring equinox celebrated the end of winter and the impending light half of the year.
Literally translated, it means "ewe's milk." For pastoral peoples this was the time of year when the ewes' lactating promised new life.
As they began to notice the days growing longer, Imbolc was said to be the time when seeds quickened beneath the soil.
Spring would indeed come again.
