The Pleasure Playbook: 13 Invitations for Awakening
Mary's first book is on its way!
For millennia Western culture has made what is spiritual a non-physical experience. We’ve demonized the body as sinful, and anything but a path to the Divine. And worse still, we’ve made God distant and unapproachable except through penitence and prostration. Martyrdom and suffering are holy, pleasure is anything but!
Yet we were born as a part of Earth, this singular jewel of the known universe, into bodies with senses to experience it all. Everywhere there is the possibility of receiving beauty. And the body is the vehicle for this pleasure.
But we have been duped. Having left the garden long ago for daily toil, we believe we must make a choice. Either we endure the struggle to survive, striving after success and accomplishment, soothing our weary selves at the end of the day with whatever will numb the pain OR we are slovenly pleasure seekers, driven by our hidden indulgences and abhorrent desires into wrack and ruin.
Perhaps there’s a middle way. And one that brings the joys of living alive in our senses into any moment of the day. And one that uses the body as an ever present avenue for presence and awareness, cornerstones to developing and deepening every spiritual perspective worldwide.
Join Mary on this practical and elegant invitation to the pleasure project. Let her evocative storytelling and prose open your senses to an ever-growing possibility for pleasure and awakening.
Each invitation begins with a short exploration of one possible avenue for awakening. You’ll begin with the five senses and then explore body, breath, and play, tools for deeper interaction with the wider and wilder world around you.
Following the short introduction, each of the invitations offers two kinds of practices: some to be done solo and others written to be explored with another. These partnered practices have the possibility to remain as strictly sensual explorations or open two lovers into the potential for expanded states of sexual pleasure.
Mary suggests that if you choose to make The Pleasure Playbook a partnered adventure, both people might read and explore the solo practices separately, like parallel play, perhaps sharing insights and discoveries over dinner or throughout the day. Then begin the book again, this time setting aside time each day to do the shared practices together.
Mary is currently working through the editing process for this book. She is expectant of a fall 2017 release... stay tuned!
